Membership in ASCCANZ

There are 7 categories of membership.

Category 1: Candidate membership
This is the most basic and often the entry level of membership.
This level is for those who enter training or who are in the process of having their credentials checked. The former is a new trainee for either category, who is in training contract with an accredited training institute. The latter can be a practitioner who has worked in their field for many years.
The candidate must have completed:
- a higher education degree (or equivalent)
- 400 hours of after-secondary education;
- experienced 30 hours of personal supervision;
- have a current contract for being in training as a coach, supervisor or consultant.
- or agree to do the "Introduction to Supervision" course.
- this category is for max. 5 years. After that a candidate must submit as eligible for category 2
- Professional indemnity cover is compulsory
Category 2: Coach
The Coach will have completed the training and supervision required for their level from an accredited training institute.
In addition to the level of candidate: the Supervisor, Coach, Consultant, Learning Supervisor or Trainer must have completed
- "Introduction to Supervision" course;
- completed 300 hours training as a coach, including at least one modality from social science. This includes the completion of written assignments as part of the training;
- 20 hours supervision within that training group (teaching supervision);
- 10 hours of supervision on one specific case from a recognized external learning supervisor. Produce a description of the case and the supervision over the case.
- 15 hours of individual counselling by a PACFA or ACA accredited counsellor.
- Document outlining own philosophy, description of coaching practice and ethical dilemma's
- Professional indemnity cover is compulsory
Category 2: Consultant or Supervisor
The consultant and the supervisor will have completed the training and supervision required for the level of consultant or supervisor h from an accredited training institute.
In addition to the level of candidate: the supervisor or consultant must have completed
- "Introduction to Supervision" course.
- 600 hours training, including at least two modalities from social science. This includes the completion of written assignments as part of the training.
- 40 hours supervision within that training group (teaching supervision)
- 20 hours of supervision on two specific cases from a recognized external learning supervisor. Produce a description of the cases and the supervision.
- 30 hours of individual psychotherapy from an PACFA registered psychotherapist
- Document outlining own philosophy, description of supervision or consultancy practice and reflection on ethical dilemma's
- Logbook on all training, supervision and analysis activities, including inter-vision.
- Professional indemnity cover is compulsory.
Although for supervisor and consultants the number of hours are the same, the content of their training will have different accents. The supervisor's focus of training will be on individuals and teams. The consultants focus will be on teams and organisations.
Category 2: Learning supervisor
- This level of membership is for advanced supervisors or consultants, who have met the standards of supervisor or consultant as described above (3)
- In addition a learning supervisor has completed:
- 4 years of supervision or consultancy practice
- show 4 documented cases of supervision or consultancy
- an ASCCANZ accredited supervision evaluation workshop
- he/she must show two letters of endorsement from ASCCANZ members in good standing, who are learning supervisors of trainers.
- Professional indemnity cover is compulsory.
Category 2: Trainer
This level of membership is for advanced learning supervisors, who have met the standards in (3) and (4) above.
In addition a trainer has complete:
- 2 years of experience as a learning supervisor;
- exposure to trainees as part of learning supervisory activities;
- present a training proposal outline, include a curriculum for coaching, supervision or consultancy or any combination of those;
- an ASCCANZ accredited training endorsement workshop;
- a contract as trainer with a training institute that sponsors the training;
- he/she must show two letters of endorsement from ASCCANZ members in good standing, who are learning supervisors of supervisory trainers.
- a supervisory trainer must be an ASCCANZ member in good standing.
- Professional indemnity cover is compulsory.
Category 3: Institutional not-for profit membership
This membership category is meant for institutes or organisations who have a not-for-profit tax status and wish to support ASCCANZ.
Category 4 & 5: Institutional commercial membership
These categories (4 and 5) are either for commercial organisations who wish to support ASCCANZ or for training institutes or training departments of organisations and corporations, who wish to accredit their training program with ASCCANZ. In the latter case, a written contract will be made after assessment of the institute's or organisation’s training outline.
Category 6: Retired member
This is for members who no longer need indemnity insurance, and do not practice in their profession, but wish to stay connected with ASCCANZ.
Category 7: Honorary membership
This category is meant for individuals who ASCCANZ wishes to honour for their contributions to the field of supervision and who have, as such, served the goals of ASCCANZ.

General Membership Details:
- Membership is valid from 1 January till 31 December
- Renewal invoices will go out in February
- Termination of membership in writing only, before October 31 of the year previous to the year of termination.
